We’re Back in the North Pole!

December 3, 2010

Dear Parents,

Now that Thanksgiving is over and we can all officially concentrate on Christmas, I can say that we are gearing up for it. Some interesting things happened this week that I’d love to share with you.

Perhaps you have built or remodeled your own home before. You know the frustrations that can go along with this endeavor. Deadlines are often missed, budgets are not adhered to and what was promised and budgeted to take 6 months usually takes a year. Does this sound like your experience?

Well, Mrs. Claus has been traveling back and forth to the North Pole weekly to ensure these guys stay on track with the renovations. Our hope was to be back in just after the holidays. Guess what? Maybe in an effort to ensure their kids get all the Christmas presents on their list, they finished two months early! We are all back in the North Pole and we couldn’t be happier with all the improvements the contractors made.

Not only is our roof fixed, there’s a brand new one in its place. The electrical is up to date and can handle all of today’s electronics. You can’t know how often we blew fuses in the past with our outdated electrical wiring. Today we can simultaneously test Wiis, computers, flat screen TVs, and other electronic gizmos you humans can’t wait to open on Christmas Day (or Eve, depending on when your family likes to celebrate).

We honestly are happy as larks with the improvements, the speed and quality that went into our renovation.

So, if you had any concerns, dismiss them. We’re back on schedule, didn’t miss a beat and are on track for delivering presents to millions of kids around the world on Christmas Eve.

Don’t forget to leave some cookies out for us. I didn’t get this belly by accident! I love those cookies. And please don’t forget about the increasingly popular “Letter from Santa”. If you are wondering how your child can receive one, it is really easy! All you have to do is fill out the simple order form, which tells me important information like your child’s name, where he or she lives, what his or her favorite toy is and the name of his or her best friend. And then I will send a letter from the desk of Santa Claus.

As a small remimnder, this year we are teaming up the Ronald McDonald House. For each purchase of a Santa Letter, I will personally donate $1.00 to the Ronald McDonald charities.

Until next week, I ask you to keep being good, and to keep reminding your child of the importance as well. The more you do that, the less work we have ahead of us.

Love,
Santa Claus

Sledding in the Snow (via Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer’s Blog)

Rudolph, it is so good to see you blogging again.

Well hello there! Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, and I just returned from a fun-filled evening of sledding here at the North Pole.  We took some time out from our practice sessions to have some fun.  I love playing in the snow especially at night when my red nose can glow. Did you know that your child can receive a Letter from Rudolph either in the mail with a North Pole postmark or you can print it on your computer?  No?  Why, yes you can!  I can give … Read More

Busy Here at the North Pole

Hello Everyone,

Why, I just found some time to sit down and blog about the goings-on here at the North Pole.  We’ve been very busy preparing for this year’s Christmas Eve trip.  I gave the reindeer the night off to have some fun sledding the snow and playing reindeer games.

Our old pal, Frosty, has been visiting us for the past several months.  I’m sure he’ll be rolling into a neighborhood near you as the winter snow season nears.

The elves and I were commenting on all the requests for Santa Letters this year.  We’ve received so many requests that we’ve made this into its own department here at the Workshop.  So don’t forget to order your Letters from Santa.  We need to mail them out by December 11th to ensure a Christmas Eve delivery.

Here comes Mrs. Claus with my hot chocolate.  Time to enjoy the festivities outside.

Happy HO HO HO!

With Santa Claus’s Workshop Under Renovation, A Temporary Move to the Tropics Seems Logical

October 27, 2010

Dear Parents,

Is it really just two months until Christmas? Although it might seem as though my thinking about Christmas coincides with when you start seeing decorations and reminders in retail stores, I have actually been thinking about it since January.

This year Mrs. Claus and I are doing something a little bit different than in years’ past. Our home in the North Pole is under slight renovation. We had been planning on waiting until after the holidays to start them but last year’s heavier than normal snowfall compromised our roof at the workshop. We had to fix it this year, so while we are doing that, I figured that we could make other renovations to bring everything up to a little modernity. The last time it was remodeled was in 1968! Along with the new roof, updated electricity, plumping and factory for making toys are all being installed.

So, we’ve packed up and headed south to Puerto Rico. I put it to a vote and everyone unanimously decided that they’d like to see what it’s like to prepare for Christmas in a climate that is sunny and warm. We have set up shop in a little town called Utuado (which is in the center of the island at in the mountains), Puerto Rico and we will be here for a couple of months. It is a farming community that produces coffee, plantains, tropical fruits and more cows, chickens and horses than I have ever seen.

We start our mornings with fresh fruit like papaya or mango and with every meal we get to eat fresh avocados. I hear that the avocados are going away soon and that they are seasonal. This is very different than having fruit imported to us in the North Pole. It still feels odd, don’t get me wrong, but we are also enjoying it here.

Our neighbors did think it a little strange that we were so overdressed, so I have embraced the notion of wearing shorts now and again. Mrs. Claus even wears shorts as well! We tend to keep the reindeer hidden because they aren’t native to Puerto Rico. We don’t want to cause an even bigger stir than we have already by our presence. As you can well imagine, Mrs. Claus and I with our very pale skin stand out in a crowd around here.

We have a lovely shop here that is nearly as large as the one we have in the North Pole. Apart from battling humidity (we had to install several dehumidifiers), we are managing quite nicely.

If you have any concerns about whether your child can still receive a Letter from Santa, it is as easy as it ever was, thanks to the Internet. All you have to do is fill out the simple order form, which tells me important information like your child’s name, where he or she lives, what his or her favorite toy is and the name of his or her best friend. And then I will send a letter from the desk of Santa Claus.

And don’t forget, this year we are teaming up the Ronald McDonald House. For each purchase of a Santa Claus letter, I will personally donate $1.00 to the Ronald McDonald charities.

Happy Halloween and I will send you an update in three weeks. In the meantime, as the Puerto Ricans say, Besos and Cuidado, which means hugs and be careful.

Love,
Santa Claus
